“Sisters Of Soul” Information:

The “Sisters Of Soul” book club was established in September of 2000.  We are a small group of sister-friends wanting to get away for at least three hours a month, to discuss a few books, do a little community service, meet new people, make new friends, and have a little fun.  Our meetings are small and informal and held in SOS members’ homes every 4th Saturday of the month.  “Sisters Of Soul” aim to do at least 2 social outings a year (i.e., plays, movies, concerts, restaurants, etc.)  We have 2 main functions a year (Holiday party and Summer Family Day).

Community Service is an important function of “Sisters Of Soul” book club.  Our major focus is on Children’s Literacy.  June 30, 2001, we participated in a Family Carnival at a local homeless shelter.  During the carnival we had a book reading of “Green Eggs and Ham”, and we handed out books and bookmarks to the children of the shelter.  The books, games, tapes, and bookmarks were donated to the book club from Borders Bookstore, Southern Management Co., and SOS Book Club members.  At the end of the event, we donated the remaining books to the homeless shelter to start a library for the children.
